DEVELOPMENT OF THE "GORSKAYA" AREA, SAINT PETERSBURG

About the project

Gorskaya is a new development area in Saint Petersburg that integrates business, culture, education, and recreation. In collaboration with the Austrian architectural studio Coop Himmelb(l)au, we developed architectural solutions, programmed the cluster’s functional content, and defined its transport and logistics systems. The “Gorskaya Harbor” concept won an international architectural competition.

The Gorskaya project is aimed at the polycentric development of Saint Petersburg.
On the city’s periphery, a new economic, technological, recreational, and cultural hub will emerge.
The multifunctional program of the area combines recreational facilities, IT, and light industrial uses. It will make Gorskaya attractive both for leisure and for work.

  • Gorskaya haven

Water is the formative element of Saint Petersburg.
It also served as inspiration for the Gorskaya project. It reflected in its planning, architectural, and engineering solutions.

  • Museum of the Elements

The landmark of the area will be the Museum of the Elements. The museum’s narrative focuses on the element of Water, making its signature feature a large-scale water attraction which is the world’s largest artificial whirlpool.

  • Light Industrial and Tech Cluster

Transformable spaces will enable the full product development cycle: from ideation to manufacturing and bringing the final result to market. The site will feature a light industrial zone with storage facilities and small wholesale areas, as well as a Tech cluster with office spaces, scientific laboratories, and lecture halls.

  • Gorskaya Embankment

The main public space of Gorskaya will be the waterfront, which will activate the harbor and connect all functional zones into a single structure. At its center, the waterfront will feature a marina for motorboats and sailing yachts.

  • Ecopark

The eco-park is the natural centerpiece of the coastal district. The revitalization of the existing wetlands will make it a development-free area where visitors can enjoy the majesty of nature.

  • Seaside Hotel

The waterfront hotel building will become another landmark of Gorskaya. Thanks to its design, every room offers a stunning bay, eco-park, or harbor views.
