LANDSCAPING OF RESIDENTIAL AREAS IN THE RAMENKI DISTRICT

About the project

A major infrastructure project in Ramenki unified three residential complexes. These are Reka, Sobytiye, and Ogni. Wowhaus developed the landscaping concept for their territories, proposing to link the complexes with a shared park and promenade to form a cohesive district identity.

The goal was to create a unique district with a unified image based on a new “green” identity. The landscaping concept contrasts the natural character of the riverfront along the Ramenki River with the urbanized environment of the built-up area.

  • Future Territory

Despite the restrictions imposed by its protected status, the presence of a protected natural area is seen more as an advantage than a limitation. With careful planning, even a large-scale residential development will not harm the natural environment but will support its development. Wowhaus proposed a highly delicate intervention in nature, including the creation of premises, untouched forest zones that allow the ecosystem to function fully.

  • Stream House

In the Reka complex, a circular internal road forms a closed courtyard centered on a shallow pond with islands and cross-connections. Instead of conventional playgrounds, green islands host art objects that can be used to play.

  • Scenic Courtyards

Premium courtyards closest to the river feature scenic slopes and connections to the natural park.

  • Forest and Garden

The history of the site, once home to the Matveevsky state farm gardens in the 1960s, influenced the design of public green spaces. Fruit and berry gardens are recreated within the built area and courtyards, highlighting the contrast with the natural park and enhancing the transition experience between spaces.

  • Geometric Composition

Courtyard-garden concepts are planned for the Sobytiye complex. Each U-shaped courtyard will feature fruit trees, allowing residents to participate in their care. Courtyards are designed as geometric compositions, each fragment serving a function while the whole ensemble is visually coherent from the upper floors, particularly important in a high-density environment.

  • Communal Spaces

A key task in designing the new residential district was fostering resident interaction. Along the central alley of the Ogni complex, playgrounds, sports areas, and an apothecary garden will be organized within a regular grid layout, providing structured yet flexible spaces for communication and recreation.
