PUBLIC LEISURE CENTER ON SHEVCHENKO EMBANKMENT, MOSCOW

From Shevchenko Embankment, there is a magnificent view over the skyscrapers of the “Moscow-City” business center on the opposite bank. However, today the area, despite its great potential, is an undeveloped and neglected slope. Our task was to create a complex space with a unique profile that would accommodate commercial areas and form a pedestrian promenade along the embankment.

The concept envisions a cascade structure in which the tiers of commercial and pedestrian spaces flow smoothly into one another. The building’s green roof extends the boulevard, while the wide steps of the amphitheater connect it to the promenade along the embankment. This approach preserves the existing green park area and maintains the view from the upper embankment.

The concept is designed to preserve the existing greenery along the embankment as much as possible. Any trees removed will be compensated by intensively landscaped green roofs and bowl-shaped planters.

The multi-level embankment combines lush greenery with a rich functional structure. It includes sports areas, playgrounds, and commercial spaces designed for a variety of users both neighborhood visitors and residents of surrounding buildings.
